ABOUT MA3FLOW
We ride the same matatus you do
Ma3flow started because three friends kept missing the 33 at Kencom. Turns out, half of Nairobi had the same problem. So we built the thing we wished existed.
The short version
Nairobi moves on matatus. Roughly 500,000 people ride them every single day. And every single day, those people deal with the same problems: Is my ride coming? Where do I board? Which sacco actually shows up on time?
We started with a simple question in 2024: what if you could open your phone and just see where your matatu is? Not a theoretical route. Not a schedule that nobody follows. The actual vehicle, moving through actual Nairobi traffic, right now.
Six months later, we had GPS trackers on 200 matatus across Thika Road and Mombasa Road. Conductors thought we were crazy. Drivers ignored us. Commuters started checking the app every morning before heading to the stage.
Today, Ma3flow covers 18 major corridors with real-time tracking, AI-powered routing that actually understands Nairobi traffic, and a stage directory that puts the power back in riders' hands. We're not a taxi company. We're not competing with Uber. We're making the system that already moves this city work better for the people who depend on it.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
The principles behind the code
Accuracy over speed
We'd rather show you the right ETA in 3 seconds than a wrong one instantly. Our verification pipeline means you can trust every number on the screen.
Community first
Stages and routes are mapped by riders, not companies. Nganyas are ranked by the people who ride them. The platform works because thousands of Nairobi commuters contribute every day.
Honest data
No fake surge pricing. No hidden fees. If a conductor says KES 100 but everyone pays KES 80, we show KES 80. Transparency isn't a feature — it's the whole point.
Culture matters
Matatus aren't just transport. They're music, art, identity. Wamlambez means something. The Nganya Spotlight exists because we think this culture deserves a platform, not just a bus tracker.
WHO WE ARE
Not a corporate team. Just people who commute.
Built by commuters
We got tired of standing at Kencom wondering if the 33 has already passed. Every person on this team has sat in traffic on Thika Road, argued with a conductor about the price, and wished we could just see our matatu on a map.
Rooted in Nairobi
This isn't a Silicon Valley project with a Kenya skin. We know the difference between Westlands and CBD rush hour. We know that Route 111 doesn't really run after 9pm. We build from here.
Open source at heart
The AI routing engine, the stage directory, the slang dictionary — all on GitHub. We believe public transport data should be public. Fork it, improve it, run your own city.
